Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

What is PRP?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment uses your body’s own healing processes to rejuvenate your skin. This innovative procedure has been used with a high degree of success in other medical fields such as orthopedics for a number of years.

Platelets also play an important role in wound healing by causing the release multiple growth factors. This attracts stem cells and other “clean-up” cells to a wound which stimulates collagen production to make the wound stronger (and give it the ability to heal). PRP treatment has been used for a long time to treat orthopedic injuries. It speeds up healing and helps to regenerate new tissue.

Since platelets stimulate collagen production and strengthen the tissue around them  they can be used to help improve aesthetic outcomes and stimulate hair growth.

How are PRP treatments done?

Your blood is drawn and the platelets are separated  using a special centrifuge to concentrate them. This creates the “Platelet Rich Plasma” (PRP) that is then re-injected into your face, neck, scalp, etc. There is no risk of allergy, reaction or rejection because nothing is added to the blood. Effectively we are using a “supercharged” version of your body’s own healing process to give you a compl

What does PRP Treat?

At the sites where the PRP is re-injected, a natural rejuvenation occurs from the stimulated collagen production and increased blood flow. Skin elasticity, texture, and color improves over time as the PRP helps to normalize aged and damaged tissue.

This treatment is particularly good for people with sun damaged, thin, or “crepey” skin.  A popular name for PRP in Hollywood is the “Vampire Facelift.”

PRP for Hair Loss

PRP is also used to treat hair loss by stimulating stem cell activity in dormant hair follicles.  Most hair loss is hereditary. Genetic signals cause hair follicle stem cells to gradually slow down resulting in shorter, finer hairs in the affected areas of the scalp. PRP can stop hair loss and improve hair growth by stimulating dormant hair follicles.

Sometimes we combine ACell with PRP.   ACell works at the cellular level to repair and remodel damaged tissues. When injected into the scalp ACell works synergistically withPRP activating dormant follicular stem cells for up to 18-24 months.  Therapy protects hair from additional shedding, renews miniaturizing hairs for improved growth, and restores hair quality and quantity for patients with thinning hair.
